Finding a large apartment or house for a family is becoming a problem, and not just because of the limited supply of affordable properties in and around major cities. This is why many people stay in their current home for as long as possible. But what if, for example, more space is absolutely necessary due to having children?

If the growing family does not want to or cannot make do with the limited space, there are usually only two options: move or create more space. However, the latter usually only applies to owners of single-family homes or rented properties. But even this is often not a quick solution and can take a long time depending on the situation. A new home is sometimes only found quickly if families are prepared to dig deeper into their wallets.

The available financial resources also play a role in the decision here. Is a move possibly more expensive than an extension or conversion? Or will additional costs have to be incurred to get the tenants out of the property?

Property owners have a decisive advantage here. They can also sell the property at a profit and invest the money in the move and the new home. But what should owners look out for and what are the specific options for upsizing? Who can owners turn to if they need help?
