According to experts, every second inheritance in Germany involves a property. Disputes often arise over inheritance, as property is not as easy to divide up as money. To avoid family disputes, experts advise settling the inheritance during your lifetime.

If the inheritance is not regulated in the will, the legal succession decides. Spouses, children, grandchildren, parents or siblings may be among the heirs. If you have three children, the inheritance is divided among them. Even without a dispute, this is often a challenge for the heirs, as the division of the inheritance often takes a lot of time and effort.

To avoid disputes within the family, many Germans transfer their inheritance to their descendants during their lifetime. Money, real estate or companies can be transferred. The authorities refer to this as anticipated succession - or pre-inheritance for short. However, there are a few things to bear in mind.
